Assignment Fifteen - Entertainment or Popular Culture

 Will You Accept This Rose?

Each year Bachelor nation rolls out new seasons of their hit shows where outrageously attractive people battle for the hearts of the ones they "love". These series of drama and romance filled episodes keep the viewers coming back for more season after season. As Americas we just want to come home and unwind after a long day of work, and just sink into our couches watching hours of mindless television. The most iconic show of entertainment television, the one that keeps the ladies crying, and keeps the word asking "who will get the final rose?" is the Bachelor.

ABC first aired the Bachelor in 2002 and has now flourished into the franchise that it is today. This show is "an American dating and relationship" reality t.v. phenomenon  that sweeps the nation and is all the talk while the show is on air. Starting as just one dating show, the franchise has since then released a multitude of different shows that are a spin off of their main two, the bachelor and bachelorette. Some of the other shows that have branched from these two include Bachelor Pad, Bachelor in Paradise, Bachelor in Paradise: After Paradise, The Bachelor Winter Games, and The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart. Each show a spin off the original, each ending with the hopes that the participants have found love and leaving a trail of drama along the way. Chris Harrison, the host, has been with the show since 2002 and is the face of bachelor nation. More women have fallen in love with him than those who have fallen in love on the show itself. The show stays rather true to its roots as it moves from season to season, but they never fail to have "the most dramatic season yet," and they aren't lying when they say that.

While these shows are often viewed as "chick flicks", the world watches when they are on. Each show is a journey to find true love and a trail of tears and laughs paves the way. This show was designed for entertainment and has been successful for almost twenty years now. It has morphed from a one show hit into a multi show franchise with a strong fanbase known as bachelor nation. Entertainment has been an outlet for Americans as a way to unwind and relax at the end of every day and bachelor nation clings to the shows they love. They stand by season after season just to see the drama and hope for love as an outcome. The world watches to see who will get the final rose.
